mybroadband : reported that Painless microneedle patch for flu vaccine developed

The patch can be used to deliver drugs or vaccines, and the patient feels no pain when the patch is applied. The Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University have developed an experimental patch of dissolving microneedles. Biodegradable microneedles dissolve within minutes after insertion into the skin and give the patch the ability to carry a dry vaccine. Studies found the patch is safe and effective at delivering flu vaccinations. This means pharmacies can store patches loaded with vaccines without the need for a refrigerator.

Credit: Georgia TechA team of researchers from the United States has developed a flu vaccine delivery method that eliminates the need for needles and syringes. If all goes according to plan, you could soon be receiving your next flu vaccination in the post! Because the needles dissolve, the patches can be discarded without fear of disease transmission, and they aren't any more expensive than regular vaccines.
