Under Obamacare, all health care plans must cover at least 10 designated benefits, including maternity care, mental health care and emergency services. Despite a setback last week, the outlines of a Republican health care bill that could pass the Senate are emerging. During the House health care bill process, the Freedom Caucus balked — but then added provisions that moved the bill to the right and helped get the legislation passed. People who don't have specific health care needs are likely to choose a cheaper plan with less coverage. Conservatives such as Cruz argue that premiums are too high under Obamacare because health insurance has too many requirements.


Oregon Rate Review Drags Down Health Insurance Increases

Providence Health Plan, for example, asked for a 21 percent increase, but will probably only get about 8 percent. Lisa Morowski with the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services said the main reason is the state's new reinsurance program. Oregonians who buy health insurance in the individual market will pay more next year under preliminary rates. So, the rates do reflect the addition of that reinsurance program," she said.
