News plex : declared in Report finds D.C. has high rate of kids covered by health insurance

According to a report, Washington, D.C., has one of the highest rates of children with health insurance. The Washington Post reports the latest Kids Count annual survey released Tuesday by the Annie E. Casey Foundation says 98 percent of Washington children have health insurance. It also says coverage rates nationwide reached a new high with 95 percent of children insured in 2015. The report says the rate of insured-children between 2010 and 2015 grew from 95 to 96 percent in Maryland and 93 to 95 percent in Virginia. The foundation's report analyzes data each year that include poverty rates, education attainment and family structure to measure the overall wellbeing of American children.

× Hearings to be held discuss proposed health insurance rate hikesHARTFORD — Hearings will be held Wednesday to discuss proposed health insurance rate increases. Proposals for health insurance rates are proposed to increase by double digits. The proposed rate hikes are due to increased medical and prescription drug costs, greater use of insurance and "uncertainty in the marketplace," accroding to the companies. Two insurance companies will have their hearing Wednesday but ten companies have submitted their requests, with a total of 14 separate filings. The average rate is pretty wide-ranging from 3.6 percent to 33.8 percent.
