Moderates chafe at Republican health care compromise stat : POLITICO

That's a dangerous dynamic that could sink the revived health care discussion just as Freedom Caucus members are warming to the bill. Indeed, it's unclear whether MacArthur's efforts have moved any moderates closer to "yes" on the stalled health care bill. Story Continued BelowBut the MacArthur-as-Republican health care savior narrative has bothered some GOP moderates, who say the New Jersey lawmaker is flying solo in negotiations with the Freedom Caucus. "I ran in support of a plan that lowers premiums, increases access and lowers health care costs across the board," Lance said in a statement to POLITICO on Tuesday. So far, House moderates have remained quiet about reports of progress between MacArthur and the Freedom Caucus, chaired by North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows.

Moderates chafe at Republican health care compromise
As the talks progressed, the White House abandoned its earlier high-pressure sales tactics in favor of a softer approach. For future battles, they decided that the White House would have to drive the agenda, rather than letting Republicans in Congress take the lead. President Donald Trump's health care reform died on a Friday in March, but Trump decided by the following Sunday that he wanted to quietly resuscitate the bill. "I think there was a collective interest to revisit it."At the same time, Freedom Caucus chairman Mark Meadows was opening talks with Tuesday Group co-chairman Tom MacArthur, according to another Freedom Caucus staffer. On Monday, April 3, Meadows invited Pence to speak to the Freedom Caucus on Hill.

Inside Trump's quiet effort to revive the health care bill
"It's gotten really, really good" isn't the language of a man who's familiar with the details. In other words, at least until recently, describing how things have "gotten really, really good" was merely a joke at the expense of stupid people. The president who chose health care reform as his big legislative goal in his first 100 days doesn't know anything about how health care works. During a joint press conference with the president of Italy, Trump said, "The plan gets better and better and better, and it's gotten really, really good. Oh and incidentally, "gotten really, really good" might sound familiar because it's the same awkward phrase Will Ferrell once used in a George W. Bush parody video back in 2004 (check the YouTube clip at 40 seconds in).
