WESTERLY — After two years of deliberation, the town now has special zoning regulations aimed at managing medical marijuana growing operations.The Town Council voted unanimously Monday to approve the new regulations following a public hearing during which they heard brief comments both in favor of and opposing the new rules.The regulations, some councilors and other town officials predicted, will likely require adjustments and updates because of the rapidly changing medical marijuana industry and because the local regulations are believed to be among the first of their kind in the stateMedical marijuana has been legal in Rhode Island since 2006, and three medical marijuana dispensaries, or compassion centers, are operating in the state.
