Fewer dose HPV vaccine hailed as 'good news'
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announcement Wednesday that younger children need only two, not three, dosages six months apart of a vaccine that protects against cervical and other cancers caused by human papillomaviruses was greeted as "good news" by pediatrician Jonathan Schwab, medical director at Northampton Area Pediatrics."It is really good news in that it appears that at least the younger children who receive the HPV vaccine will get enough immunity from just two shots and that a third will not be necessary," Schwab noted. He added that the recommendation from the CDC would be considered by his practice after the American Academy of Pediatrics reviews it and makes its formal recommendation.
