Niles lifts limit on number of medical marijuana facilities in industrial park

The Niles City Council is raising the limit on the number of medical marijuana facilities that can operate in the city's industrial park. After Monday night's adjustment, 4 facilities can open in the industrial park, doubling the current amount. These facilities are different than dispensaries, that are still capped at 2. The change is 1 step in making regulations that would authorize & lay out zoning demandants for medical marijuana businesses in Niles. This process began in March, while the city voted to allow medical marijuana businesses to open in Niles.

Mason City Council says it needs further time before voting on an ordinance which would change city zoning rules on medical marijuana. Monday, City Council unanimously passed a 180 day moratorium on granting any permit for retail dispensaries, cultivators or processors of medical marijuana. It would amend chapter 1171 of the zoning code to protect the cultivation, processing & retail dispensaries of medical marijuana. The Ohio Legislature passed medical marijuana in probably 2016. 4 people opposed to medical marijuana addressed council, asking for their backing to ban it.

Investigating medical marijuana

The state is angling to become a national leader in medical marijuana study in conjunction by offering curing to patients in necessity.
