SELF : declared in Katy Perry Talked About Having Suicidal Thoughts in a Live-Streamed Therapy Session

Perry went on to talk about how her stage persona, Katy Perry, differs from her real self, Katheryn Hudson. Perry met with Siri Sat Nam Singh, Ph.D., and discussed everything from her love life to her battles with suicidal thoughts . Suicide kills 44,000 Americans each year, and even more struggle with suicidal thoughts, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). You can watch the entire hour-long therapy session above, her comments about suicide come in around 36 minutes. But today, she chose to even more vulnerable and intimate, by livestreaming a "therapy session" with Viceland's Dr. Siri Singh. At one point, she admitted that she's struggled with suicidal thoughts in the past, "I feel ashamed that I would have those thoughts, feel that low, and that depressed," she said. She also noted in the session that part of why she changed her hair was because she didn't want to be Katy Perry anymore.
