Patch : declared in Georgia Lawmaker Runs Medical Marijuana Network

ATLANTA, GA — A Georgia lawmaker is leading efforts to distribute legally approved cannabis oil to hundreds of sick residents who can't access medical marijuana. State Rep. Allen Peake runs the Medical Cannabis Working Group, a rudimentary and clandestine network that gets cannabis oil to patients in the state. The situation has led Peake, recognized as the godfather of medical marijuana in Georgia, to lead the way in the creation of distribution channels. After a House vote on the bill, lawmakers gave Peake a standing ovation for his work on medical marijuana in the state. While the state General Assembly has backed medical marijuana for state residents, there remains no state-sanctioned system for marijuana growth in Georgia, a conundrum that has many residents taking risks with out-of-state growers and — in desperate cases — unregulated suppliers.

Legal Medical Marijuana Raises Illegal Use

The new study can't say medical marijuana laws caused the increases, but Hassin said it's possible adults interpreted the laws to mean marijuana is harmless. The risks of medical marijuana laws are important to convey, said lead author Deborah Hasin, of Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health in New York. For example, she said, research has tied medical marijuana laws to fewer Marijuana overdose deaths. And public insurance payments for certain drugs were found to fall in states with medical marijuana laws. "We are seeing (the increased potency) in states with no medical marijuana laws," said Carlini, who was not involved with the new research.

Roger Goodell Says Medical Marijuana Might Not Be Safe Enough For Grown Men Who Hurt Each Other For a Living
Or perhaps Goodell's busy navigating the consequences of things the league does condone, and which are demonstrably more dangerous than marijuana. How does Goodell not know these things? There are a lot of compounds in marijuana that may not be healthy for the players long term. The league is also on the hook for a billion dollars in benefits to retired players suffering from traumatic brain injury. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell isn't ready to take medical marijuana off the league's list of banned substances because the drug might be "negative to the health of our players," he told ESPN on Friday.
