Gallup: Uninsured health insurance rate increases slightly stat : UPI

The uninsured rate had reached 18 percent in the third quarter of 2013, right before the health insurance exchanges began in October 2013. Those without health insurance dropped from 20.8 percent to 13.6 percent since 2013. April 10 (UPI) -- The percentage of U.S. adults who don't have health insurance rose slightly in the first quarter of 2017, according to a Gallup and Healthways polling. In 2014, the Affordable Care Act that mandated insurance coverage went into force. An ACA provision allows young adults to remain on their parents' health insurance until age 26.

There are three main options for young adults looking at health insurance: stay on a parent's plan until age 26, accept a future employer's insurance or pay for private insurance. With the flurry of graduating, finding a job and settling somewhere new, it's easy to put health insurance at the bottom of the priority list. Should health insurance be a priority?
