A recently released study from distributed denial of service (DDoS) security firm Nexusguard, the Q3 2016 DDoS Threat Report, revealed that attackers are turning away from reflection-style attacks, which use Internet services to amplify traffic, towards compromised Internet of Things (IoT) devices.A recent attack on October 16 used a host of compromised IoT devices to knock numerous major services offline including Twitter, PayPal and Reddit.A similar attack also hit the Krebs on Security website, home of cybersecurity researcher Brian Krebs, in September for a record 620 Gbps in traffic was also thought to be powered by a similar botnet.
