UW-Madison issued a recommendation that all students be vaccinated against a potentially deadly bacterial disease that has sent two students to the hospital (Photo: File image)University of Wisconsin-Madison on Friday issued a rare recommendation that all undergraduates get immunized against a type of potentially deadly meningococcal disease that put two students in the hospital a week ago and announced it will set up a special clinic starting Thursday to offer the expensive vaccine to students at no charge.University Health Services made the campus-wide vaccination recommendation after consulting with state public health officials and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."We're vaccinating 30,000 students for two cases, but this is a really, really devastating disease," said physician Sarah Van Orman, executive director of University Health Services.

Following the outbreak of meningitis B last spring, Rutgers offered prevention and vaccinations students.To date, Rutgers has administered 21,571 doses of Meningitis B vaccine to students.Of those, 3,864 doses were provided by on-campus clinics, 3,491 were given at the Hurtado Health center and the rest were administered off-campus, said Melodee Lasky, assistant vice chancellor for Health & Wellness.
