PINEHURST — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that between 5 percent and 20 percent of people in the U.S. get the flu every year.More than 200,000 are hospitalized due to complications that include pneumonia and inflammation of the heart, and thousands die.Vaccination, according to the CDC, is the best way to prevent the flu, and Dr. James Liffrig, medical director of the FirstHealth of the Carolinas Convenient Care program, agrees.
