Five days after an affiliation agreement between the former Athens Regional Medical Center and Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare became effective, the first tangible evidence of the new future for what is now Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center was unveiled Wednesday.In a morning ceremony attended by dozens of Piedmont Athens Regional staff members, local and state government officials and other civic leaders, the hospital officially revealed its new logo and formally marked the beginning of a partnership that was months in the making.• View more photos from the ceremony.

Baptist Medical Center Beaches and Baptist Medical Center Nassau are both evacuating patients before Hurricane Matthew hits the Jacksonville area Friday.Patients from Baptist Beaches Medical Center are being transported to Baptist South, and Baptist Nassau patients are being transported to Baptist Jacksonville.Patients will be accompanied by nurses, physicians and technologists during and following the transfer to maintain their care.
