SOUTHWICK - Most people attending a public hearing Monday night voiced opposition to a proposed medical marijuana dispensary in Southwick.About 30 residents attended the hearing at Town Hall which was cal,led by the Select Board to provide a public information hearing on the dispensary proposal sponsored by Health Wise Foundation Inc., a Massachusetts non-profit.Southwick resident and former police officer Rose Hannah was the most vocal in the audience expressing concerns over potential "robberies and carjackings" because of the location of a marijuana facility.

The state now has regulations to control the amount of medical marijuana dispensaries in Michigan.Under the new rules:Dispensaries can be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.;There must be security cameras;There cannot be drive through windows;The marijuana must be labeled;The license must be on display; andBusinesses will have to pay a $3,000 application fee."They will have a 30 day window to apply for the license," said council member Carol Wood.
