Self-funded mid-sized companies can rein in health insurance costs, BSI says
Self-funded mid-sized companies can rein in health insurance costs, BSI saysCompanies that have between 50 and 500 employees are underserved, overcharged and under-appreciated when it comes to fulfilling their health insurance needs, according to officials at BSI, a corporate benefits consulting firm based in Bethlehem.Unlike large companies with more than 1,000 employees, mid-sized companies "are on an island" because their insurance rates are more unpredictable, said Shawn Hughes, vice president of BSI, who spoke with other BSI officials to an audience of business owners, controllers and chief financial officers at a health insurance seminar Thursday morning at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.Officials at mid-sized companies often make decisions with limited data and end up with "one-year fixes," Hughes said.
