FORT LEAVENWORTH, KS — Chelsea Manning, the whistleblower who is incarcerated in Fort Leavenworth for leaking classified government documents to WikiLeaks, ended her hunger strike on Tuesday after receiving assurances from the Army that she would receive medically prescribed treatment for her gender dysphoria, the American Civil Liberties Union said.According to the ACLU, Manning's treatment will begin with surgery that was recommended by her psychologist in April.On Friday, Manning announced that she would not consume any food or drink voluntarily, except for water and currently prescribed medications, or cut or shorten her hair, in response to what she described as "bullying" by the prison and U.S. government officials.
