BARDA awards funding to speed development of Zika vaccineHHS announced a $43.18 million contract to develop an inactivated vaccine candidate to prevent Zika virus infection.Under the contract with Sanofi Pasteur, the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) of HHS's Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response will provide funding and technical assistance to support the advanced development of a candidate Zika vaccine whose development was launched at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.Sanofi Pasteur's advanced development will include further process development, scale up, production of clinical trial material, and two Phase I/II clinical trials that are expected to begin in the first half of 2018.
