By Genesee MartinThe Seattle City Council took the first step toward becoming the fourth city to ban what is commonly referred to as gay or homosexual conversion therapy, with legislation introduced and unanimously approved during the Civil Rights, Utilities, Economic Development and Arts Committee on Tuesday.The bill was sponsored by Lorena Gonzalez, who shared after the meeting that it was her very first piece of legislation introduced as a city councilmember, after years as a civil rights attorney.If adopted by the full council next week, the legislation will add another chapter in the city's civil rights code, and the civil rights office would handle violations.
