MUMBAI: A 26-year-old Mahim resident gave birth to a rare kind of conjoined twins, who share a heart and legs but have separate heads, at the civic-run Sion Hospital on Wednesday."These conjoined twins are not the usual type, but have a very complex internal architecture.Externally, they have two separate heads and necks, but a partially common thorax (the part between the neck and the abdomen); and are completely fused below the umbilicus (navel) level," said Sion Hospital dean Dr Suleman Merchant.Their mother (TOI has decided to withhold her name at her request) came to Sion Hospital well into the seventh month of pregnancy.
