Hawaii allows first lab to begin testing medical marijuana quoting : ABC News

Hawaii approved its first laboratory to begin testing samples of medical marijuana 17 years after use of the drug was legalized in the state. Hawaii was among the first states to legalize medical marijuana in 2000. Then medical marijuana dispensaries began opening in Hawaii this summer, but they could not sell their products because the state had not certified any labs to conduct the required testing. On Monday, the state Department of Health certified Honolulu-based lab Steep Hill Hawaii. Maui Grown Therapies also is ready to begin testing its product, said Teri Freitas Gorman, director of community relations and patient affairs at the dispensary.

The rules write between the lines of the state law passed last year that legalized marijuana for medical use only. A bipartisan legislative panel opted not to interfere with more than 100 separate rules proposed by the Ohio Pharmacy Board and state Department of Commerce. Its jurisdiction was largely limited to whether the rules conflicted with state law or other rules or whether they overstepped the proposing agency's authority. House Bill 523, the law legalizing medical marijuana, prohibits smoking, but cannabis may be administered as a vapor. The board is accepting public comment on a proposed map it unveiled last week that suggests how they would be distributed.
