Orlando's first licensed medical marijuana dispensary opens Friday - Story stat : fox35orlando

- Orlando's first ever licensed medical marijuana dispensary opens on Friday at 11 a.m., reports the Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/2qxr3J2). Knox then reportedly sought after permits for sites to build medical pot stores. After winning the state's competition to be the medical pot grower and dispenser for the Central Florida region, the company began delivering medical pot to clients in December, says the Orlando Sentinel. The Orlando Sentinel says that more than 630 physicians have been licensed by the state to recommend medical cannabis to patients, even though the state is still hammering out the rules for this process. The Orlando Sentinel went on to say that the Knox Medical dispensary, located at 1901 N. Orange Avenue in Ivanhoe Village, is more like a limited pharmacy available to only people with doctor's prescriptions for low-THC cannabis.

Those five companies had been runners-up in the original medical marijuana license application process in 2015, scoring sixth through 10th out of 43 applicants. ALBANY — The state Department of Health has given conditional approval to five companies seeking new licenses to grow, produce and sell medical marijuana products, with plans to dole out full registrations later this month if those companies meet certain requirements. Still, DOH disclosed earlier this year that only half of the patients certified to use medical marijuana at that time were repeat customers. As the legal back-and-forth continues and the state takes more steps toward licensing new operators, there are slightly more than 20,000 patients certified to use medical marijuana products. In an affidavit included with court papers filed in state Supreme Court in Albany late last week, Nicole Quackenbush, director of the state's medical marijuana program, wrote that DOH had on May 25 conditionally registered five companies it had been considering for new licenses.
