Therapy Dog Program Debuts in Louisiana Juvenile Court stat : Access Denied

(AP) — A Louisiana juvenile court has introduced a therapy dog program to help children at court dealing with difficult family situations. The therapy dog program has also won praise from lawyers and others who frequent the courthouse. She went with him to a few pet behavior classes, where many people remarked that he would make a great therapy dog. Bailey and the dog got certified as a therapy team last year and have been making appearances at nursing homes and hospitals. The dog handler, Judy Bailey, and her dog Blue — a stray catahoula and Australian shepherd mix— recently came to the courthouse to interact with children as families and children waited for their day in court.

Texas Lawmakers Mostly Maintain Cuts to Children's Therapy Program

School-based Therapy Program serves children in all three Blount County school systems.
AUSTIN, Texas - Texas lawmakers have decided not to undo severe cuts to a program that serves low-income people with disabilities. Advocates say the cuts have been detrimental to the program and will lead to fewer children being served. Lawmakers approved the cuts in 2015, but since then, many have called it a mistake and promised to reverse the decision. That deal keeps in place dramatic cuts in the rates paid by Medicaid to therapists who serve disabled children. Much to many of their objections, the lower chamber voted Friday to go along with a Senate budget plan.
