Daily Kos : reported that Republican Trumpcare turmoil is putting Children's Health Insurance Program at risk

Until Republicans got focused on taking health coverage away from tens of millions of children and adults with Trumpcare, that is. "Now all three legs of that coverage stool — CHIP, Medicaid and ACA — are up for grabs." The Children's Health Insurance Program has long been a bipartisan one. Now, CHIP's health care for 9 million children is in danger—its funding continues until September 30, but if new funding isn't going to come through, states need to start planning now. "Certainty and predictability [are] important," agrees Matt Salo, executive director of the National Association of Medicaid Directors.

Health Insurance Benefits Should Be Equitable, Not Necessarily Equal

Novel approaches to insurance plan design to produce a more equitable and efficient distribution of health care expenditures are warranted. They also can exacerbate inequities in health care, by inhibiting the use of services known to benefit health. Lessons learned from other areas of public health and health care can be instructive here. If people responded identically to, and had equal need for, clinical services, then access to those services should be equal. Following the principle of equality, insurance benefit designs traditionally have offered the same benefit structure to all enrollees.
