Italy is also facing health issues, as it has recorded three times the number of measles cases in 2017 than past year. Authorities already can impose a fine of 2,500 euros ($2,800) on parents who persistently refuse to attend the vaccine consultations, compulsory for children attending kindergarten. So far in 2017, Germany has reported about 410 cases of the measles, which is more than last year's total. Parents found in violation of this upcoming law may be fined up to 2,500 euros, or about $2,800 in US currency. "With steady progress towards elimination over the past 2 years, it is of particular concern that measles cases are climbing in Europe", WHO Regional Director for Europe Dr. Zsuzsanna Jakab said.
