House Votes to Boost Health Insurance Options for Businesses quoting : healthpayerintelligence

Lately, lawmakers have expressed concern about anti-competitiveness in the health insurance market as certain payers have pushed for mega-mergers. March 27, 2017 - The House of Representatives has voted 236-175 to move the Small Business Health Fairness Act of 2017 to the Senate in an effort to increase health insurance options for small businesses. States also would not be allowed to offer health insurance connected to an AHP, as these plans are separate from state-issued insurance. Self-Insured Association Health Plans, or AHPs that are semi-benefited, fall under the same procedures and guidance. Certain AHPs that don't cover specific health coverage benefits will be required to have 1000 or more participations.




Instead, TrumpCare, if enacted, will reverse the trend of widening health insurance coverage set in place by Obamacare. The proposed Republican bill, the American Health Care Act (now referred to as TrumpCare), which describes itself as laying "the groundwork for a 21st century health care system," is clearly not intended to provide more Americans with health insurance coverage. In 2010, more than 47 million Americans were without health insurance; by 2015, this number had fallen to almost 30 million. The National Center for Health Statistics most recent survey estimates, however, that about 28 million Americans were still without health insurance coverage over the first nine months of 2016. All told, far too many people, especially people living in poverty and near poverty, still do not have health insurance coverage.
