fox5dc : declared in United Medical Center newborn nursery services suspended for 90 days

- D.C.'s Department of Health has suspended the license for obstetrics and newborn nursery services at United Medical Center. Employees at the medical center were briefed on the 90-day suspension, but the cause not revealed to them. A D.C. government source told FOX 5 that United Medical Center was warned by the Department of Health to improve patient care in obstetric unit. This restriction applies solely to obstetric and nursery services and will remain in place for 90 days or until the hospital implements its plan for obstetrics and nursery services. FOX 5 attempted to contact the medical center for comment, but has not received a response.

DC orders United Medical Center to suspend baby deliveries, prenatal care

The Department of Health in Washington, D.C., has ordered a hospital to stop delivering babies and offering prenatal care for the next 90 days. The Washington Post reported Tuesday that district officials declined to say what prompted the suspension at United Medical Center. Health department spokesman Tom Lalley said the agency was limited in what it could say about licensing decisions. It is far past time to finally bring health equity to the East End of the City. He urged the council to provide necessary funds in the next budget cycle or in supplemental budgets to get a new East End hospital back on track.

D.C. shuts down obstetrics ward at United Medical Center for 90 days
United Medical Center, a public hospital, serves poor D.C. neighborhoods east of the Anacostia River. District regulators have ordered the only full-service hospital in Southeast Washington to stop delivering babies and operating its nursery for the next 90 days. The D.C. Health Department is restricting United Medical Center's license that allowed it to perform obstetrics and nursery care while the hospital implements a plan to improve those services, a spokeswoman for the agency said Tuesday. United Medical Center doctors can still assist in childbirth in certain emergency situations. The 2014 report said about a third of the 15 OB/GYN beds were being used, on average, at United Medical Center.
