The Morning Call : reported that Allentown Council passes ban on gay conversion therapy for minors

ALLENTOWN — Allentown City Council unanimously passed an ordinance Wednesday banning gay conversion therapy for minors within city limits — the first third-class city in Pennsylvania to enact such a measure. Allentown City Council unanimously passed the conversion therapy ban out of committee Wednesday. Once law, the ordinance will punish counselors who practice conversion therapy on minors by revoking their business licenses. Pittsburgh signed a ban into law in December, and Philadelphia City Council also approved a ban in June. Dozens of people packed a standing-room-only meeting in City Council chambers Wednesday, all in support of the measure.

Rhode Island becomes 10th state to ban 'ex-gay' therapy for youth
Earlier this year, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to review a challenge to California's prohibition on "ex-gay" therapy for youth. The governor of Rhode Island signed into law Wednesday a measure that bans widely discredited "ex-gay" conversion therapy for minors, the 10th state in the nation with such a prohibition. The four states that banned "ex-gay" therapy this year are Connecticut, Nevada, New Mexico and Rhode Island. Raimando's signature not only makes Rhode Island the 10th state in the country in addition to D.C. with a ban on conversion therapy, but also makes the state the fourth this year to ban the practice for youth. Another city set to ban needed therapy

Allentown city council may take a final vote today (see meeting agenda), so Gramley is encouraging city residents to take action against the ordinance. A Pennsylvania town is heading toward a ban on therapy for children with unwanted same-gender attractions. If the measure passes, Allentown will become the third Pennsylvania community to ban the therapy. And what better way to addto their numbers [in the LGBT community] than to prevent the needed therapy for these minor children who may be having these unwanted same-sex attractions?" Diane Gramley of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania tells OneNewsNow the ordinance (Bill 40) has been approved on first reading by the Allentown city council.
