Twincities : declared in St. Paul mayoral candidate Dai Thao fires campaign manager following allegation – Twin Cities

St. Paul mayoral candidate Dai Thao, a city council member, has fired his campaign manager following allegations the pair pressured a lobbyist for "resources" in advance of a city council vote, according to a media report. After being approached by Lyden, Thao fired Marlow as his campaign manager. Thao repeatedly told the lobbyist "he needed resources so he could spread his message," Lyden said. Marlow is a Ramsey County employee and union officer with AFSCME Local 8, which represents county librarians, social workers, public defenders and other professional employees. Fox 9 investigator Tom Lyden reported Saturday that Thao met with a lobbyist in February at the Golden Thyme coffee shop on Selby Avenue to discuss a vote coming up before the council.

The lobbyist said the meeting wasn't intended as a campaign meeting and that Thao's campaign manager did not attend. That could mean any criminal investigation might need to be referred to a different prosecutor to avoid a conflict of interest in St. Paul. Authorities are launching an investigation over claims that the election campaign of a St. Paul City Council member may have solicited an improper campaign contribution from a lobbyist. Dai Thao campaigned at Murray Middle School in St. Paul on April 29. Marlow, Thao's campaign manager, did not respond to requests for facebook/" target="_blank">comment about the February incident, the interaction with the lobbyist, or her status with the Thao campaign.
