Selling health insurance 'across state lines' isn't real reform according to : StarTribune

In his address to Congress, Trump shied away from many health reform details, but he did specifically mention one "solution" that's long been on Republicans' wish list — selling health insurance across state lines. Few in health care think this is a serious proposal to address the individual health insurance market's key problems — soaring premiums and lack of competing plans. Right now, health insurance is regulated at the state level. The trouble, as Trump acknowledged this week, is that health care is incredibly complex. The small individual health insurance market (roughly 5 percent in Minnesota) is where people buy coverage on their own if they don't get it from employers or through popular, government-run programs such as Medicare.

Selling health insurance 'across state lines' isn't real reform
State health centers are receiving calls from individuals nationwide who have been contacted to switch their health insurance plan to the Pennsylvania Department of Health plan. "Our state health centers provide services to uninsured or underinsured Pennsylvanians," Secretary of Health Karen Murphy said in a statement Tuesday. "The Department of Health does not offer an insurance program, nor does it collect insurance information from residents receiving services. Additionally, organizations receiving a W-2 scam email should forward it to both the state Department of Revenue at RA-RVPITFRAUD@pa.gov and the IRS at phishing@irs.gov and place "W2 Scam" in the subject line. If you are receiving a call from the Department of Health about health insurance, please know that this is a scam and hang up."

Trump to health insurance CEOs: Market will stabilize

Feb. 27 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump told a group of health insurance CEOs on Monday that his new insurance program will be good for patients and "hopefully for the companies." "I'm asking Secretary Price to work with you to stabilize the insurance market and to ensure a smooth transition to the new plan," Trump said. Earlier Monday Trump met with state governors attending the National Governors Association, where health insurance was among the topics discussed. And costs will come down and [inaudible] to health care will go up very, very substantially. "Nobody knew that health care could be so complicated."
