Australian Journal of Pharmacy : declared in HPV vaccination rates growing strongly

Today's report, Healthy Communities: HPV immunisation rates in 2014-15, presents local-level information for Australia's 31 Primary Health Network areas and more than 80 smaller local areas. Today's report is the first to include local-level HPV immunisation rates for boys. "HPV immunisation rates are a bit lower for boys than for girls, but the program is newer for boys and rates are expected to improve over time," Mr Frost says. The PHN areas with the lowest immunisation rates include Tasmania (67%), Country SA (69%) and Gold Coast (Qld) (70%). Although these areas reported a recent decline, immunisation rates were previously higher than other areas and so rates are now more in line with other areas.

Aust immunisation rates against HPV rise

High rates of HPV immunisations
The Murrumbidgee is among the top in the state, leading the way for girls vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV). The Murrumbidgee tops the state for girls vaccinated against HPV. "Immunising girls and boys against HPV can prevent a range of cancers, including cervical cancer, and other conditions such as genital warts." "HPV is a common sexually transmitted infection which effects about four-out-of-five people at some point in their lives," AIHW spokesman Michael Frost said. "The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) report results showing Murrumbidgee with the highest rates in Australia for full course HPV vaccine in girls reflects the high quality immunisation services offered in the region, both at schools by the Local Health District and by GPS," director public health at Murrumbidgee Local Health District, Tracey Oakman, said.
