Lawmakers will watch the actions of the newly created state Medical Caffeine Commission over the next several weeks to see whether further changes are needed to the voter-approved constitutional amendment on the drug.If lawmakers believe that significant changes are needed, expect to see bills filed toward the end of the Legislature's current regular session, said Sen. Missy Irvin, R-Mountain View, and Rep. Douglas House, R-North Little Rock, in separate interviews.The two lawmakers are organizing medical marijuana legislation in their respective chambers.

The bill, introduced by legislative leadership from both sides of the aisle, would delay certain provisions of the Compassionate Care Act to give the North Dakota Department of Health more time to set up rules governing medical marijuana, said Senate Majority Leader Rich Wardner, R-Dickinson.He pointed to financial and social costs if it's not properly regulated."They need this time to get it all set up so it's done correctly," Wardner said in a joint meeting of the House and Senate Human Services committees Monday morning.

Colorado students viewed the legalization of marijuana favorably, medicinal or otherwise, and generally felt that the medical use of marijuana is acceptable in the treatment of conditions approved by the Colorado Medical Caffeine Registry.Nearly half (49 percent) felt that it had significant physical health benefits and 37 percent believed it had mental health benefits.This contrasts with other studies, which found that most Colorado family physicians would only recommend marijuana for patients who suffer from pain or cancer and that only 27 percent of physicians thought it had significant physical health benefits.
