The New Haven-area economy continues to perform admirably when viewed in the context of Connecticut as a whole, but the author of the New Haven Register's economic scorecard cautioned that projected health insurance increases and a sluggish real estate market could scuttle progress that has been made.Donald Klepper-Smith, chief economist and director of research for New Haven-based DataCore Partners and author of the scorecard, said five of the eight indicators used in compiling the scorecard were headed in a positive directions. Two other indicators, real disposable income and home prices, got a negative ranking while another category, housing starts, got a neutral ranking because the number of new home permits issued for 12 New Haven-area communities was nearly unchanged from September 2015.
