New Wayne County base will help UNC Health Care ferry heart patients
"Heart and vascular is a big part of what's driving the volume of patients," said Alan Wolf, a spokesman for UNC Health Care. The new North Carolina Heart and Vascular Hospital is opening at the main Raleigh campus of UNC REX Healthcare in March. UNC has based one of its three Carolina Air Care helicopters in temporary space at the Wayne Executive Jetport since October. UNC added Wayne Memorial Hospital to its network in 2015. Health systems run by the likes of UNC and Duke University are reaching out from their urban bases through affiliation agreements into rural areas.Direct primary care (DPC) will end up playing a more prominent role on the national stage of conservative health reform. Lawmakers in Congress and others in the consumer-driven health care scene strongly endorse DPC because it drives patients to pull more price transparency out of the very opaque U.S. health care system. The Seattle-based DPC conglomerate is recognized as an exemplary market force in the private sector of health care. In exchange for a membership fee (the industry average monthly payment ranges from $25 to $85), patients have access to around-the-clock primary health care. DPC works like a health care gym membership.
